This gorgeous vine will climb up any rough surface such as walls or ponga logs. A mass of brilliant crimson flowers appear when mature. It is a moderately tender plant that will grow in sun or semi-shade but is frost tender.
Metrosideros carminea is endemic to the North Island, south to Taranaki & Mahia peninsular. It is found from coastal to lowland forest mainly on forest margins, cliff faces and rocky outcrops.
Climber or shrub.
Prefers full sun to part shade.
